America's first ever uterus transplant fails just two days after infertile recipient spoke out about her joy and hopes for a 'miracle' baby

The nation's first uterus transplant has failed and the organ has been removed, the Cleveland Clinic announced on Wednesday. 

A 26-year-old woman, identified only as Lindsey, received the transplant on February 24 and seemed to be doing well, even appearing briefly at a news conference on Monday with her surgeons. 

But the woman suffered a sudden complication that required surgical removal of the uterus on Tuesday, the hospital said.
