The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company on Wednesday commenced the daily production of 3.2 million litres of petrol, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said.
According to the NNPC, the plant commenced production last weekend with an initial petrol yield of about 1.5 million litres, but this has been ramped up to 3.2 million litres.
The corporation, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, said, “The injection of this volume into the system will significantly impact ongoing special intervention efforts designed to bring relief to motorists across the country.”
Meanwhile, fuel queues by desperate motorists in Abuja and neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Kaduna grew longer on Wednesday despite the deployment of the employees of the NNPC by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to monitor fuel distribution and the retail system.
Hundreds of motorists besieged the few petrol stations that sold the product in the states and the Federal Capital Territory, while many outlets did not sell petrol.
The Group Executive Director, Commercial and Investment, NNPC, Dr. Babatunde Adeniran, said so far, the intervention exercise of the corporation had recorded some success.
He said, “Our workers are putting in all their best to ensure that orderliness is restored in most of the filling stations. They are also there to ensure that nobody creates a situation that will hamper the discharge of products.
“At one of the filling stations in Asokoro today, the Police came to assist us to clear out some motorists trying to jump the queue. That is most commendable.”
