The Nigerian Communications Commission has announced that about 10.7 million telephone lines may get blocked following a directive for telcos to deactivate pre-registered Subscribers Identification Modules (SIM) cards on their networks.
NCC’s Head of Compliance and Monitoring Unit, Efosa IdehenĂ˝ at a press conference in Lagos, on Monday, said after a monitoring exercise conducted by the commission across all four major GSM service providers, about 10.7 million SIMs have been barred out of 38.78 million SIM cards found to be ‘improperly registered.’
He said these improperly registered accounts included such things as poor fingerprints, no facial information and other biometric challenges.
