Teenager 'fobbed off' 10 times by doctors who diagnosed her pain as a pulled muscle was ACTUALLY battling bone cancer

When Melissa Sutton began complaining of pain in her rib cage and became short of breath, her mother took her to the GP. The 16-year-old was told she had pulled a muscle and was prescribed painkillers. But the pain remained, and became so bad she could no longer sleep at night. Over the course of three months, the teenager attended the GP practice a total of 10 times, but each time she was told by various doctors she had a sports injury. Eventually the pain became so intense that her mother Alison Brookes, 41, rushed her into A&E. Doctors discovered she had a collapsed lung, and scans later revealed she was suffering from Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Melissa, from Rochdale, Lancashire, had to have an operation to remove four ribs, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
