The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, has approved promotion of 5000 soldiers fighting the Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast, just as he said the Army was closing in on the Chibok girls in the Sambisa Forest with a view to rescuing them.
Meanwhile, the Army chief has charged officers to align to the wind of change that is blowing all over the country by watching their weights, building confidence with sister agencies, being loyalty to constituted authority and abiding by the right dress code.
Buratai, whospoke yesterday in Abuja at the opening of COAS quarterly conference, said that accelerated promotion promised by his predecessor is intended to improve the general well being and morale of the gallant soldiers participating in the Operation Lafiya Dole in the Northeast.
He said the commitment of the soldiers deserve commendation and all the motivation that can be accorded them. “I have since approved the special promotion for 5000 gallant soldiers,” he said.
According to Buratai, the leadership of the Army has also approved N321 million for payment of Nigerian Army sponsorship of deceased personnel’s children for 2014/2015 academic session, with over 1082 families benefitting from the scheme this year”.
While stating that the recalled 3032 soldiers, retrained in Kontagora, have being used to beef up the depleted units in the northeast, he maintained that the unethical practices in the healthcare system are unacceptable, thence the Army has engaged the services of a medical consultant to enhance improved healthcare delivery.
