Wayne Rooney, 29, has turned his Cheshire mansion into a giant playground for himself and his children. The Manchester United captain allowed cameras a glimpse of his off-field life for a documentary to mark his achievement of becoming England's greatest goalscorer. Inside his house there is a games room (top left) with pool table and arcade machines, an LA Galaxy shirt worn by Steven Gerrard (bottom left) and guitars signed by Sir Paul McCartney and Oasis star Noel Gallagher. Outside, the vast garden contains a cabin-like climbing frame, inflatables, a caravan-style den (top right) - and, of course, a set of real goalposts for kick-arounds (main picture) with sons Kai, five, and Klay, two. The documentary, Wayne Rooney: The Man Behind the Goals, to be shown on BBC1 on Monday reveals the tough footballer's surprise sensitive side. He enjoys writing poetry and often pens verses to surprise his wife Coleen - his childhood sweetheart - whom he married in 2008.
