iKasuwa, an online multi-seller book market has been launched in Nigeria with the aim of becoming Nigeria’s equivalent of Amazon.
The platform is a one-stop shop for publishers and booksellers to exhibit their books, thereby making it easy for buyers to make purchases.
To use the platform, authors or publishers register by creating an account and thereafter exhibit their books, which could either be in digital form – PDFs, ePUB and audiobooks, and hard prints, which are delivered to customers through verified vendors.
Seller’s accounts are verified before activation in a bid to ensure the platform is safe for business, and payments are made via PayPal and VoguePay, both of which are secure payment processors.
CEO of Stone Age Media Limited, owners of iKasuwa, Mr. Adetayo Adegbenle said, “With the launch of iKasuwa, it is now possible for publishers, authors, and booksellers to make available their catalog while book buyers can search through and make purchases easily.”
According to the CEO, “International publishers are already monitoring the progress of the platform and have promised to come on board to serve sub-Saharan Africa.”
iKasuwa, which literally means Internet market – i for Internet and Kasuwa for market in Hausa, started out with Classified Ads Section, where buyers meet sellers before adding a PIN Vending Section, where e-recharge cards and e-access PINs are sold and delivered by through SMS and email.
iKasuwa aims to satisfy an underserved market by being a platform where book lovers and customers can search, find and purchase books they crave in any format they want.
