US Technology Company Google Expands Project Link To Ghana

Google, a US-based multinational technology company has announced it has expanded Project Link to Ghana as it seeks to provide faster and more reliable Internet access to the populace.
Google, through Project Link, builds fibre-optic networks, making it possible for local providers to connect more people to the Internet and each other.
In Ghana, the Project Link team will work with local Internet service providers (ISPs) and mobile network operators (MNOs) to bring fast, reliable broadband to more people both in Ghana and across the continent.
To achieve its objectives, Project Link will build more than 1,200 kilometres of fiber across Kumasi, Accra and Tema to connect local ISPs and MNOs to metro-area fiber, thereby giving them more speed and capacity to work with which will invariably help in meeting the bandwidth demands of Ghana’s schools, small businesses and even the ordinary smartphone users.
With plans on commencing service early next year, the Project Link team isn’t leaving any stone unturned as it has already started work in Accra, with Kumasi to follow soon.
“There’s a lot of work ahead but we look forward to working with local providers to ensure that Ghana’s local infrastructure can help its people and businesses participate fully on the Web and be inspired by what they can do online,” stated Google in a blogpost.
In Uganda, Project Link has helped the Research and Education Network of Uganda, which provides infrastructure to connect universities across the country, to strengthen its network, making it easy for the exchange of ideas, remote research and academic collaboration.
In 2013, reports had it that Africa was among the fastest growing continent, if not the fastest, but only a few people had access to the Internet, cutting a large chunk of the population off the huge and immeasurable benefits the Internet brings.
It is in view of this massive problem that Google launched Project Link, ensuring that Africans have access to not just basic Internet connection but to super-fast and reliable Internet access to drive business growth across the continent.
