Lee Thompson, 47, of Solihull, West Midlands, who advises the police on street theft techniques, was aiming to show how easy it is to steal from unsuspecting members of the public. He made the video to highlight how there were 442,000 pickpocketing thefts in Britain last year - totalling £84million - as new research reveals the criminals gain an average of £190 each time. A study by Nationwide revealed 8 per cent of street thefts saw people lose more than £500 worth of possessions, yet more than half of all pickpocketing victims last year were not insured.
