Couple Who've Lived Alone In Spanish Village For 45 Years After Everyone Else Moved Away

When the Spanish Civil War tore through Spain in 1936, thousands of people fled the country's rural towns for the cities in search of work. But from these conditions emerged the charming love story of Juan Martin and Sinforosa Colomer (pictured together centre) - an elderly couple who have lived alone in the abandoned village of La Estrella (bottom left) for the past 45 years. The rural village, located around 100miles from the city of Valencia, once had a population of 200 that included a mayor, policeman, priest and professional teachers. But now it is home only to the Colomers, who spend their days looking after their pet dogs and cats (bottom and top right), tending crops, cleaning and washing (top left) and enjoying each other's company in a beautifully antiquated way of life.
