iROKOtv Launches iROKO Global, Its Global Distribution and Licensing Division

Africa’s largest online content distributor of Nigeria’s movie industry, iROKO is launching its global content distribution and licensing division, iROKO Global, according to a report from Variety.
Back in April when iROKO announced that it was diversifying its distribution model with its foray into the Linear TV market and distribution deal with Netflix, it was quite clear that the company was on the verge of — its most ambitious and audacious attempt ever — making the already popular movie industry ubiquitous.
The company recently hired Justine Powell as its Senior Vice President for iROKO Global, who previously was VP, Distribution for CNBC and up until now worked as Director of Sales in Europe & Africa for Associated Press.
“Nollywood has always been very well known in Nigeria, and more broadly across Africa … [where] people have a real appetite for those films and TV series. I think [iROKO Global] is a real indication of the growth of Nollywood, the interest in Nollywood, and the fact that Nollywood is becoming more and more professional as a film industry,” she told Variety.
The move, which marks the company’s latest strides towards expansion beyond its online roots since launching as a dedicated YouTube channel, Nollywood Love back in 2010, would see it partnering with media outlets across the world to license the company’s huge library of films and TV series from Nollywood, offering 1,500 titles and 3,000 hours of programming.
It is unclear which media outlets the company has agreed a deal with as at the time of writing this post. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.
