Nigerian Firm, To Manufacture Flash Drives Locally

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of an ICT firm, Connect Spectrum, Gabriel Okwuche, said on Thursday that arrangements have been concluded for the local production of USB flash drives in Nigeria.
Mr. Okwuche disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, while speaking on the influx of substandard ICT products in the market.
He said his firm distributes various ICT materials such as flash drives and memory cards, but that the local production of such items would go a long way in checking the inferior brands in the market.
Mr. Okwuche said arrangements were in top gear by his company to bring in some experts into the country to commence the manufacture of USB flash drives and other sundry products.
“It will be much easier for the regulatory agencies like the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to check the influx of inferior items in our markets, if some of the items are produced here.
“These inferior items find their way into our markets through some of the various entry points into the country.
“The regulatory agencies can decide to pay unscheduled visits to manufacturing plants in the country, to find out details about their production processes.
“In such oversight functions, a whole lot of anomalies in the ICT products can be discovered and corrected,’’ he said.
The businessman added that the company was also going to leverage on the knowledge of some Nigerian scientists in their day-to-day activities.
“We want a situation where the foreign experts will work alongside Nigerians, with a view to transferring their know-how to the indigenous technologists,” he said.
Okwuche added that the firm would start operations in the second quarter of 2016.
