Chivas has unveiled the finalists for the Nigerian leg of The Venture, a global search for the most promising startups possessing the potential to not only succeed financially but also have the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
In no particular order, the finalists are Babatunde Alayande; Angel Adelaja; Jeremiah Bulus; Kelvin Ogboli and Akintoyese Sanda.
The five entrepreneurs made it to the finals after a two-day boot-camp held from December 3-4, 2015 at energy development company, CBC Energy where 15 entrepreneurs were prepared for the semi-final pitch that took place on December 7, 2015.
One of the finalists will be declared winner on pitch day – December 16, 2015, winning a cash prize of NGN1 million and receiving automatic qualification for the global finals of the competition taking place in June or July 2016 at a yet-to-be-announced venue.
All the finalists for the global finals will be announced on January 18, 2016 with the public allowed to vote for their favourite entrepreneur which will determine how US$250,000 of the US$1million fund up for grabs will be distributed amongst the finalists.
This will be followed by the Accelerator Week in March or April 2016 where the entrepreneurs will sharpen their business skills through a variety of intensive business master-classes at world leading businesses.
Thereafter, the finalists will pitch at the global finals to an expert judging panel for a share of the remaining US$750,000.
At the inaugural The Venture competition held in San Francisco, South Africa’s Lumkani, which designed an innovative tech-driven fire detector won US$75,000.
Just like in Nigeria, local competitions of The Venture will take place in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
