Guumzo Launches Voice Sharing Network App In Tanzania

Guumzo, a Tanzanian startup that lets users share all kinds of personal and public voice clips, has announced the launch of its voice sharing social network app after beta-testing it for some time.
The app, available to Swahili speakers in Tanzania, allows users to record a two-minute voice message and share with their followers.

The new app has with it additional features such as premium accounts, which allows users to share longer contents including music and/or recorded news articles, image attachment to a voice message, media player and recorder for easy interaction and so on.
“We are set to allow our users to sell their voices and audio files in April 2016 and now we have started initial talks with local artists in Tanzania,” Co-founder of Guumzo Media Co. Ltd, Ng’winula Kingamkono told Disrupt Africa.
He added, “Users will pay using our in-house payment system that converts mobile money to digital currency. We’ve licensed our payment platform to Orijino Komedi, who will be launching their video streaming services in early 2016 and it is open for developers to use APIs on their platform.”
Although Guumzo recently raised seed funding from last year winner of Big Brother Africa, Idris Sultan, it is seeking further funds as it plans to expand into Kenya and Rwanda in the middle of 2016.
Guumzo had a busy 2015 – it pitched at Slush 2015, PIVOT East and Seedstars Dar Es Salaam.
Now that its app, which is available for Android devices, is out of beta, Guumzo hopes to acquire over 200,000 users in Tanzania by May 2016.
