FG Assures Nasarawa Of Interventions In Power, Infrastructure

The Federal Government has assured Nasarawa State government of its readiness to intervene in the critical area of power supply and provision of basic infrastructure which are lacking in the state despite its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatude Fashola, disclosed this in Lafia when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura as part of his ongoing assessment tour of Northcentral states.
The minister said he was in the state to take stock of all the projects his ministry was involved in; either executing or about to be executed.
Fashola who requested for land from the state government to enable the federal government build affordable houses for the citizens of the state as part of its national housing scheme, assured that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration will ensure the provision of adequate power supply, construction of roads and provision of other basic infrastructure in the state.
In his remarks, Governor Almakura lamented that the state was neglected in the area of infrastructure development in the last dispensation and required urgent attention of the federal government.
He said Lafia is the only state capital in the federation serviced with 33KV line even when a 330KV transmission line passes through the heart of the state capital.
“It is most disheartening and a big paradox in our life as a state that we have 330KV line passing through Lafia to Jos, but because we have been the orphan state that has been so abandoned, so neglected because we did not belong in those past four years, there was no effort to drop the 330KV lines which passes just above the Government House.”
