Photo: Shark Eating Shark In South Korean Aquarium

Housemates can be a pest at the best of times, but be thankful most sharehouse feuds don't end in one mate eating another, as was the unfortunate case between two sharks this week.

To the shock of visitors at the COEX Aquarium in Seoul, South Korea, an 8-year-old female 2.2 metre sand tiger shark made an easy meal of its tank mate, a 5-year-old male banded hound shark half its length.
It was a banquet that took around 21 hours to complete, and has been described by aquarium staff as a "turf war".

"Sharks have their own territory. However, sometimes when they bump against each other, they bite out of astonishment," the aquarium's public relations manager Oh Tae-youp told Reuters.

"I think the shark swallowed the whole body, because they usually eat it all when they bite the head part."
The attack reportedly took place on Thursday evening, shortly after which the large female was filmed devouring her tank mate's body. About 21 hours later only the tip of the tail remained protruding from her mouth, which will likely stay there for up to five days.
Aquarium staff added that the shark would regurgitate the carcass after about a week, as it is unable to digest it.
