Parents were forced to hold their tiny children above the freezing January waves as they waded towards the shore of the Greek island of Lesbos.
Crying children sat on the beach looking out at the grey ocean, wrapped in silver thermal blankets, as they tried to recover from the harrowing journey from Turkey.
The group were helped ashore by volunteers at the Greek island, after making the crossing from Turkey.
Winter sea conditions do not appear to have deterred asylum-seekers, with boats still arriving on the Greek islands daily.
