Scottish Trade Delegation To Explore Investments Opportunities In Nigeria

The British High Commission said on Wednesday that a Scottish oil and gas delegation will visit Nigeria from Jan. 25 to Jan. 28 to explore investment opportunities in the country.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by Mr Wale Adebajo, Communication Manager, Press and Public Affairs Unit, British Deputy High Commission, Lagos.

The statement said the visit was meant to gain a good understanding of local market conditions and to also look for potential local companies interested in partnering with a Scotland-based company.

“The group comprising 13 Scottish companies will also participate in the Offshore West Africa Conference and Exhibition at the Eko Hotel and Suites from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28, 2016.

“The visit will also promote the strengths of the country’s very large oil and gas supply chain via a Scotland pavilion.

“Gary Soper, Regional Manager of Africa for Scottish Development International will lead the delegation,’’ the statement said.

The statement said that Soper was delighted to be bringing such a large trade delegation from Scotland and participating in the 20th edition of the Offshore West Africa conference.

“Our presence is aimed at promoting the strength of the Scottish industry and developing ties with Nigerian businesses.

“Sub-sectors represented include education and training, subsea engineering, winches, electrical product distribution, well construction and engineering services, and remote communications systems,’’ the statement said.

In the statement, Soper described Scotland as a true Global Hub for oil and gas, adding that the oil and gas cluster made a huge contribution to the Scottish economy.

It noted that Scotland had grown many creative and innovative companies already operating in over 100 countries worldwide.

“Whilst some Scotland-based companies are already operating in Nigeria, there is scope for more to be active here through developing partnerships.

“There is also scope for transferring some of the technologies and skills that have been built up over the 50 years of operating in the North Sea,’’ it said.
