Couple Move Into Their Dream £450,000 Four-Bed Semi - Only To Learn Two Weeks Later It Could Be BULLDOZED For A New Road

John Venables, 44, and Alex Hayden, 48, (together right) splashed out £450,000 for the brand new semi-detached property (left) in Orsett, Essex, after making the move from the nearby parish of South Ockendon.

But just two weeks after moving into their new four-bedroom 'dream' home, they received a letter (inset) out of the blue informing them their house may need to be demolished to make room for the new Lower Thames, Essex to Kent crossing.

The £3.4 billion project had not shown up on any searches carried out by the couple's solicitors prior to their purchase, despite the fact their new home and six others may need to be knocked down.

The pair, who have still not even finished unpacking, said they have been left distraught by the news and are hoping to fight the scheme - although they do not hold out much hope. Miss Hayden said: 'I know deep in my heart we are not going to win this.
