Stay Away From Sex, Ladipo Tells Boxers

TWENTY-six new boxing stars have been unveiled by organisers of GOtv Boxing NextGen Search, just as the President of Nigeria Football and Other Sports supporters Club, Rafiu Ladipo, has advised the boxers to always cultivate the habit of staying away from sex two or three months before any major fight.

He gave the advise at a sport/medical seminar at the National Stadium, Lagos. “If you have a fight in two or three months time, stay away from sex because it won’t help you,” Ladipo said. “I was very close to the late Hogan Bassey in his boxing days. Any time he had a fight the man will stop going to bed with his wife three months to the bout. That really helped Hogan Bassey on his way to becoming a World champion.
“I was with a current Nigerian boxer when he won a world title. After the fight, I saw five women all around him in the night and I told my partner that this man wouldn’t last in his boxing career. True to my prediction, the boxer was beaten black and blue in his next fight. That is what sex does to a boxer,” Ladipo added.
The new boxer, most of whom are in their late teens and early 20s, were those who made the cut at the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search, a talent hunt, which held for two days to find new professional boxers.
The selected boxers were palpably gleeful as their name was announced, after sparring sessions featuring over 80 boxers. All the selected boxers also had the pro licences paid for by the sponsors.
The organisers also unveiled the best 15, who are slated for a two-week camping exercise at the Lagos Hall of Fame Boxing Gym.

The camping exercise started yesterday. They will be trained by five coaches, who have been mandated to give the young boxers a sturdy professional foundation.
Three of the 15 were also identified as the best participants during the hunt. They are Ebube Edeh, Saidi Lawal and Nwoye Prince, who were all given GOtv decoders. The sponsors also paid for medical examination for over 100 professional boxers present at the event. Jenkins Alumona, CEO of Flykite Sports, organisers of the event, disclosed that four of the new stars would fight at the GOtv Boxing Night 6 next month.
