Fast Show star to play Alf Garnett in remake of Till Death Do Us Part - and he'll be just as sexist, racist and misogynist as ever

Day (bottom left), 53, will play the role of the controversial character in a one-off episode called A Woman's Place is in the Home.

As part of a comedy season, the BBC is remaking sitcoms which have been missing from its archives in front of studio audiences.

They will be shown across BBC1, BBC2 and BBC4 this summer. Garnett will be just as sexist, racist and homophobic as ever in the show which will be recorded, unchanged, from Johnny Speight's original 1967 script.

The original actor Warren Mitchell (top left) died last year, aged 89. He became a much loved figure on TV screens across the country while playing the role of Garnett.

Former Hollyoaks actress Lizzie Roper (second from bottom left) will star as his wife Else, who had previously been played by Dandy Nicholls (second from top left).

Playing the role of Rita, formerly Una Stubbs (second from top right), is Sydney Rae White (second from bottom right), with Waterloo Road's Carl Au (bottom right) as her husband, according to the Daily Mirror .

The 'Scouse git' had originally been played by Cherie Blair's father Tony Booth (top right).
