The Queen's power struggles with the mother she adored: They shared a mutual love of horse racing, but Her Majesty and her mother were far from alike


The Queen and the Queen Mother both had a shared interested in horses and horse racing despite, it is believed, never having placed a bet on the outcome of a race. 

However, following the Queen Mother's death in 2002, The Queen paid off her mother's debts, including a £4 million overdraft as well as the racing bills she had accumulated in the years before her death.
