The elephant in the... pool! Two-month-old calf takes his first dip in the water - and has the time of his life
Ellie, an African elephant calf, was born on May 14 at the Dallas Zoo. His mother Mlilo had been rescued from drought-stricken Swaziland during the spring.
Her baby only weighed 175 pounds at birth - not much for a species in which newborns usually go from 150 to 300 pounds. That is because his mother had a difficult 22-month gestation before she arrived to the zoo in the spring. But Ellie (pictured playing in his kiddie pool) is clearly growing up to be a healthy elephant - and the public will be able to see him once he is done bonding with his mother and the rest of the herd.
