Woman captured silently confronting heavily-armed Baton Rouge police in powerful photographs is a 28-year-old mom and nurse who spent 24 hours in jail for her 'crime'

Ieshia Evans, 28, a nurse and mother from New York, has been revealed as the woman behind the powerful arrest photo from the Baton Rouge protest on Saturday.

According to Natasha Haynes, a lifelong friend of Evans, she traveled down to Louisiana after becoming 'overwhelmed with emotion' at the protests. Haynes said that Evans was worried for her son, aged 5, and so went to try and help make a better future for him. Evans has now been released after 24 hours in custody, and is recovering in Louisiana before coming home.
