President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a 23-man team, to oversee the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report on Ogoniland.
The exercise may, however, be stalled, as the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and Ogoni chiefs clash over resumption of oil exploration in the area.
Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, yesterday, revealed that the President has ratified the inauguration of a 13-man governing council and a 10-man board of trustees, to ensure inclusiveness, accountability, transparency and sustainability of the clean-up.
The Minister did not reveal the names of members of the governing council and board of trustees.
While reacting to frustrations caused by delay in commencement of the exercise, Mohammed restated President Buhari’s conviction at seeing Ogoniland and other parts of the Niger Delta cleaned up.
