From a boy scared of water to our hunk in the trunks (cheered on by his nan): How Adam Peaty rose from being spotted in the slow lane at his local pool to a gold medal winner
As a toddler (pictured left inset), he had an irrational fear of water. In fact, he was so scared that he would throw a tantrum at bathtime, refusing to sit down in the tub.
Who do you think that frightened little boy was? Astonishingly, it is none other than Adam Peaty (shown left). Today, the world record-holder for 100m breaststroke is called the 'Prince of the Pool' - the man who with calm insouciance shattered the world record on Saturday and then did it again early Monday morning. The 21-year-old's extraordinary journey would not have been possible without the support and sacrifice of his endearingly down-to-earth family (including super fan and nan, inset right), and not to mention his girlfriend Anna (pictured with Andy, right), who is in Rio cheering him on.
