What Can Twitter Lists Do for Businesses?

Many businesses employ social media to get the word out about their brands. One such social media platform is Twitter, which allows users to broadcast 140-character nuggets of information to followers.

Some businesses can have hundreds or thousands of followers, which can make organizing information tricky, but that's where Twitter lists come in. Twitter lists allow users to group specific sets of people into separate lists to more easily see who is tweeting what.

These lists also allow you to find like-minded followers by perusing others' lists. The Twitter list function can be an important tool for businesses for a variety of reasons.

Increase Brand Awareness

You can personalize your Twitter profile page with a short biography, your location, profile picture and background image, but these small opportunities may not be enough to brand your business. You can also reate brand-specific Twitter list categories and group your followers under the appropriate categories. For instance, if you run a makeup company, you can name one of your Twitter lists for your company and add all cosmetic-loving followers to it, and create sub-lists that group followers based on various types of makeup that interest them. Think of catchy names for your lists. "You’ll get more people interested in looking at your list if the name sparks their interest," says Business Insider.

Indicate Leadership

Having a solid following and organizing that following well within your Twitter lists can indicate that you are a leader in your product or service space. Your lists can function as a form of advertising to potential followers who can see how popular or well-liked you are by who makes up your lists and how engaged they are with your brand. The more followers you have, or the more Twitter lists you are added to by your followers, the more chances you will have to show your good side to other Twitter users.

Connect

Use Twitter lists to connect with industry leaders and regional contacts such as vendors or business partners. By connecting to these types of contacts, your business can increase its visibility on Twitter and you may have more chances to expose your brand and service to not only customers, but important business partners. Ask contacts and leaders to add you to their Twitter lists by direct messaging or replying to them with your request.
