Customers were seen forming huge queues to use the ATM machines outside the store. Some reported queuing for up to an hour just to pay for their shopping.
The store has released a statement apologising for the pandemonium, but many shoppers were not happy about the service received in their individual stores. People posted photos of cashiers using old-fashioned card-readers, while others said stores were only accepting cash. The issue has been resolved in some stores, but the majority are still being affected. An Asda spokesperson said: 'We are in the process of resolving a technical issue with our card payment system in stores. 'We're continuing to process payments as quickly as we can but apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this has caused.'
