Passage to the next round will have been Jurgen Klopp’s priority but this was a night that brought the Liverpool manager much more than a single victory as Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi lit up another night of high-energy football.
Sturridge we know all about and it was the England striker who scored the two goals that took Liverpool past a largely impotent Tottenham team. Sturridge, short of his best form this season, struck in each half and, despite a rather comical air shot in front of goal just after half-time, was a dangerous and intelligent attacking presence throughout.
