Former Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic ended Real Madrid’s 40-game unbeaten run with a late winner for Sevilla after Sergio Ramos had put through his own net to turn the most dramatic of games on its head.
Real Madrid looked to be heading for a 1-0 victory after Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty had put them ahead on 67 minutes. But Ramos, who had been jeered throughout by supporters at his former club, then powered a header past his own keeper.
The script for a sporting biopic about Ramos would be rejected on the grounds that it was too far-fetched. To crash home one of his trademark late-late headers was almost to be expected, but to do it at he wrong end was incredible even by his standards.
