Oh wait. Uber has lowered prices in Lagos too!

Well well well. The on-demand ride sharing space in Lagos is getting quite interesting as rivals Taxify and Uber are trying so hard to outdo themselves and become the preferred service.

Taxify recently announced a reduction in prices for its riders in Lagos, pegging its base fare at ₦200, ₦55 per KM and ₦5.5 per minute with an average trip costing ₦950, way lesser than that of its competitor.
While we were still congratulating the startup for lowering prices as promised, Uber has swiftly responded to this move, announcing a 40% reduction in prices with effect from 4 May 2017.
“Decreasing the fares should get more people requesting more rides with Uber, which leads to drivers spending more time with paying riders and standing a chance to earn the same or more!,” Uber stated.
Uber drivers, who are gradually becoming notorious for going on strikes at the slightest ‘provocation’, may not be totally happy with the reduction. For this reason, Uber has put “temporary earning guarantees” in place to ensure they don’t lose out.
Commuters who always crave lower prices can now have their wishes. This is what healthy competition does. Once more ridesharing services become available in the country, the competition will become fiercer and everyone will get to enjoy truly affordable transport services.
