According
to Business Day, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state says Ogun state
government has paid N496 million Senior School Certificate Examination for
May/June 2015 owing West African Examinations Council (WAEC), adding that the
State wage bill on monthly basis has hit N9 billion.It will be recalled that
the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) threatened on Monday to withhold results of all the students from
19 states of the federation who wrote the Senior School Certificate Examination
(SSCE) in May/June 2015 if their governors failed to pay up all the debts owing
WAEC. Speaking at the swearing-in of the State transition committee chairmen of
the 20 Local Councils, held in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor
Amosun declared that the state “is no more owing the West African Examination
Council (WAEC)”, saying he had approved the payment of a sum of N496 million
initially being owed the examination body on Tuesday this week.
