Amosun pays N496m WAEC debts as Ogun monthly wage bill hits N9bn

According to Business Day, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state says Ogun state government has paid N496 million Senior School Certificate Examination for May/June 2015 owing West African Examinations Council (WAEC), adding that the State wage bill on monthly basis has hit N9 billion. It will be recalled that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) threatened on Monday to withhold results of all the students from 19 states of the federation who wrote the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in May/June 2015 if their governors failed to pay up all the debts owing WAEC. Speaking at the swearing-in of the State transition committee chairmen of the 20 Local Councils, held in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor Amosun declared that the state “is no more owing the West African Examination Council (WAEC)”, saying he had approved the payment of a sum of N496 million initially being owed the examination body on Tuesday this week.
