A MOTHER frantically searching for her son who vanished 11 months ago is pleading with Chelsea fans to help after she thought she spotted him in the crowd at Stamford Bridge. Jon Anderson Edwards disappeared without a trace while working as a chef in Lagos, Portugal in September 2014. Originally from Arbroath, Scotland, the 31-year-old suffered head injuries in a fall and then failed to turn up for work. His clothes, passport and phone have been left in his apartment and an extensive search by both police in Portugal and the UK has found nothing. Jon's mother, Lesley Edwards, 54, now believes she may have seen her son among Chelsea supporters in a photograph taken at a pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Wednesday at the famous Blues ground. She said: "We've been searching for him for almost a year now and we've had so many wrong sightings and different twists and turns but I saw that picture last night and said 'God that looks like Jon'. "My heart skipped a beat and I was up half the night. "Even if we can find the information to discount it at least we can move on but if it's not him it's his absolute double." Mrs Edwards was shown the picture by a friend and is now asking anyone who could help either confirm or rule out the sighting. An appeal on Facebook has been shared more than 1,500 times. His mother added: "The search was really well publicised over in Portugal but we've never had any information, it's a mystery. "He went out on a Friday night and had a fall and said he'd been feeling sick and dizzy afterwards. "He went missing without his phone, clothes and passport. "How he'd have got back into the country I don't know as the Portuguese police still have his passport. "We're contacting the club and police to try and get to the bottom of it but we're hoping someone out there who was at the game or recognises him may be able to help us." Police Scotland are continuing to help officers in Portugal with the search for Jon. A spokeswoman said anyone with information regarding the picture or the search for Jon should contact them on 101.
