MTN Nigeria Spends N10bn On Simcard Registration

MTN Nigeria has said that it has so far spent N10 billion to register voice and data telephone users on its subscriber identification module (SIM) card database since 2012 in line with the directive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure that all subscribers are captured. The senior manager, Regulatory Affairs, MTN Nigeria, Mr Quasim Odunmbaku, speaking yesterday at a media briefing in Lagos to explain steps taken by operator to comply with the NCC’s directive on pre-registered simcards, said that the operator has left no stone unturned to ensure that it complies with the NCC’s directive. He said that as at 2013, MTN Nigeria spent over N5 billion to conduct a national simcard registration exercise. Currently, MTN has 62.8 million subscribers as at June 30, 2015, and has expended over N10 billion on the programme.
