Interesting statistics have been published on the use of Facebook in Africa, mainly in Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya at the end of Facebook’s second quarter in 2015.
The company racked up 1.49 billion monthly active users during its second quarter report and 1.31 billion of those users came via mobile devices.
According to Facebook, 7.1 million Nigerians use Facebook daily and 15 million Nigerians use the site monthly. The entire 15 million monthly active users access Facebook through their mobile devices.
The same is true for South Africa and Kenya with a very high percentage of their citizens accessing Facebook via mobile devices and contributing 12 million monthly active users and 4.5 million monthly active users respectively to the pool of Facebook users.
Back in June of 2015, the company reported that there was a 20% increase in the number of Africans that joined Facebook since September of 2014, rising from 100 million to 120 million. The increase in internet penetration through mobile in Africa led Facebook to establish its first office in Africa at Johannesburg, South Africa to help it gain product insight and marketing revenue from the African continent.
