Internet.Org Undergoes Changes By Facebook

Internet.org is a global initiative of technology leaders, local communities and experts to bring Internet access to places in dire need of it, has undergone some changes, birthing Free Basics by Facebook in the process.
Free Basics by Facebook, which can now be accessed from FreeBasics.com instead of Internet.org, is a distinct platform from Internet.org.
The revamped website supports HTTPS as with the Android app and comes with a menu where users in Asia, Latin America and Africa can choose which services to activate.
These changes comes after Facebook was accused of violating net neutrality rules and favouring its own services over its rivals, which inevitably led to the opening up of the Internet.org platform to developers.
Now, the platform boasts more than 60 new services created by third party developers which include BabyCenter for pregnancy and parenting information, and SmartBusiness for novice entrepreneurs.
The Internet.org initiative was founded in 2013 by Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg in partnership with Samsung, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Nokia, MediaTek and Opera Software with the aim of bringing affordable access to selected Internet services to less developed countries
