Opera Software ASA, a Norwegian software company
popularly known for its Opera browsers, has released a newer version of its
Opera Mini for Android browser which comes with a new compression technology.
The new version, which route requested webpages through one of Opera Mini’s
data-saving servers, gives users the ability to switch between two different
data compression modes: High and Extreme, thereby helping users optimize data
usage for different network conditions. The High-compression mode compresses webpages without
affecting the page display, making it the perfect choice when surfing the web
on 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi networks while the Extreme-compression mode compresses
webpages extensively, presenting the user with a scaled-down version of a
webpage but with a very high-speed Internet experience using very little mobile
data, making it the most ideal choice for users experiencing slow network
conditions or for users keen on saving their mobile data.
“Only
half of the mobile population in India is connected to 3G networks, while in
Indonesia, more than half of all smartphone users experience network problems
daily. And, people all over the world turn off their phones while traveling,
due to fear of data-roaming costs. In each case, Opera Mini offers a better web
experience,” says
Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. He further said, “We are continuously striving
to improve user experience, lowering barriers to get online in all kinds of
conditions.” In addition to the advanced data-saving compression
technology, several features such as “New and Improved UI for saved pages and
bookmarks”, “Better handling of bigger downloads in High-compression mode”, “A
scalable interface with higher resolution for tablets and large phones” and so
on were included. The release of this updated version of Opera Mini for
Android browser is an important milestone toward Opera’s goal of reaching 275
million Android users by the end of 2017 and becoming the dominant browser in
fast-growing emerging economies.
