Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has trained 2,379 teachers in jolly phonics for early year pupils. The Chairperson of the board Mrs Lyop Mang who was speaking in Jos said that the training was done in collaboration with Universal Learning Training Solutions Initiative, London.
Mang said that jolly phonics uses skills in learning letters, word formation and identifying sounds in word. She said that it introduces letter sounds with an action, song and story line for the 42 sounds in English and that it was fun for early learners.
She added that 793 headmaster and headmistress, 793 teachers and 793 officials were selected from the three senatorial zones of the state for the training.
