Bahati Books, an e-publishing company which publishes African literature by African authors has been crowned winner of the Africa Tech Pitch LDN, a London-based Africa-focused startup competition.
Africa Tech Pitch LDN provides a global platform for promising early-stage startups with Africa-impacting innovations to showcase their ideas and solutions to the London tech community as well as to potential investors and partners to help them move their ideas forward.
Women-founded Bahati Books alongside four other startups – MedTechDoctors, IZI-fin, Okiki app and estimate.ng, pitched their solutions to a panel of judges for a chance to emerge winner.
Bahati Books’ solution – bringing African literature to the world through e-books, impressed the judges and as such were pronounced winner of the competition.
The event took place on November 12, 2015 at IDEALondon, a unique innovation centre for startups & entrepreneurs to grow and expand their business.
The first edition of the competition, won by Afrikstart, was held in April, 2015 and featured startups from the UK, Rwanda, US and France with audience favourite, SafeMotos going on to raise US$131,000 for further development of its solution.
After the pitches, Christopher Baker-Brian, co-founder and CTO of BBOXX – a company which designs, manufactures and distributes innovative solar systems to improve access to energy in Africa, shared his startup journey and how he set-up the tech business that has gone on to raise US$3 million earlier in the year.
Africa Tech Pitch LDN is the brainchild of African Technology Business Network (ATBN), a London-based organization with a mission of helping to unlock profitable opportunities for businesses in both economies and impact development in Africa.
