Benji (left), a 10-year-old Patterdale Terrier, has attracted dozens of potential new owners at Easterleigh Animal Sanctuary in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, due to his jet black fur and cute brown eyes. But each of them have been put off by the fact that he is diabetic and needs an insulin injection every 12 hours. This means the adorable canine (pictured, right, with a charity worker) has remained at the Fylde-based sanctuary since 2008. Mandy Leigh, chairwoman for the facility, which is willing to continue paying for Benji's medical care even if he is adopted, said staff feel the dog deserves a happy home to enjoy his old age. They are now publicising Benji's story in a bid to find him a loving home.
