These images (left and right) from a satellite shows the winter storm barrelling over the Atlantic towards Britain, where it is predicted to dump 19 inches of snow and up to a foot of rain in a fortnight of torrid weather. Winds as high as 70mph are set to batter the nation, prompting the Met Office to issue wind and ice warnings for the whole country. Pictured centre is the seafront at Aberystwyth in West Wales which was bombarded with giant waves. Forecasters fear the storm's effects could be felt for days to come, after an estimated 11inches of rain fell over some parts of the UK in a single day. Scotland is set to be the worst-hit part of the country overall, with huge snowfall predicted in mountainous areas.
