My friend who wants me to help her buy a high-end and costly smartphone for less has just called to remind me of Black Friday. She went on to say “I’ll call you when it’s about clocking 12 midnight so you don’t sleep off.”
Just like my friend, a lot of Nigerians are charging up their phones and laptops right about now, and double-checking their phones to ensure they still have data plans, all in preparation for Black Friday.
But then, what is Black Friday and what significance does it have on e-commerce platforms and consumers in Nigeria?
Black Friday originated in the USA and is celebrated annually on the fourth Friday in November – the week after thanksgiving. It is notably the first day of traditional Christmas shopping, during which crowds of consumers are drawn to special offers by retailers and e-commerce companies in more recent times.
In Nigeria, the concept of Black Friday began in 2013. Since then the concept has spread like wildfire with major online stores jumping on the bandwagon of what could possibly be regarded as the largest shopping event in Nigeria.
This year, Black Friday falls on November 27 and has seen many e-commerce companies in Nigeria geared up with assortments, inventory and amazing deals to grab the attention of bargain hunters across the country.
Innovative e-commerce companies continue to seek unique ways to drive their online sales during Black Friday.
One of such e-commerce company is Kaymu, an online shopping community where buyers meet sellers and make the best of deals for all kinds of products, whether they are used or new.
Kaymu has taken the festivities to a new height with the launch of its dedicated online store at the stroke of midnight on the November 27, 2015 with the promise of jaw dropping deals and prices.
Also, Kaymu has released a comic video in order to get consumers in the Black Friday mood.
According to Sefik Bagdadioglu, Managing Director of Kaymu, “Black Friday has grown from being a shopping event to a social commemoration with Nigerians saving up for Black Friday to take advantage of the numerous deals,”
He added, “The Black Friday Store is power packed with up to 90% discounts on a wide range of products. There is something for everyone with deals from fashion to gadgets to home and many more.”
With the concept of Black Friday catching on in Nigeria, more and more online shoppers have eagerly been looking forward to get in on the fun and games.
Nigerians are expected to throw in huge amounts of money at deals, offers and bargains in everything from electronics to fashion to furniture and many more.
