Email Killer, Slack Launches Us$80 Million Fund For Developers

Slack, a team communication app and the killer of email has announced the launch of a US$80 million fund to support developers building apps that interact with Slack.
The Slack Fund focuses primarily on “Slack-first” apps but developers building B2B and enterprise tools that make Slack integrations a core part of their offering will also be able to access the fund.

The fund is open to developers working in every industry from anywhere in the world.
“We’ll measure the success of the Slack Fund in the quality and adoption of the apps built by Slack Fund companies and by the overall investment we see in the Slack ecosystem,”Slack stated on its blog.
Interested developers or small company in Africa can access The Slack Fund by sending an email to slackfund@slack.com
As a way of showing commitment to The Slack Fund, Slack has already invested in three companies – small wins; awesome.ai and Howdy.
The fund is backed by investors such as Accel, Andressen Horowitz, Index Ventures, KPCB, Social Capital and Spark Capital.
Also, Slack announced the launch of a brand new Slack App Directory, which houses over 160 apps that can extend the capabilities of Slack teams, sorted into curated lists by category, popularity and staff favorites.
Simply put, the Slack App Directory will enable teams to find apps that would make them work smarter and faster.
Since launch in 2013, Slack has gradually become the darling app for workplace collaboration. This year, more than one million people have used Slack actively on a daily basis.
