In recognition of its contribution to the Nigerian economy, the Dangote Cement Plc, has won the most Outstanding Company of the Year Award.
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) which announced the honour said that the cement company has distinguished itself above others through its support of the development of the Nigerian economy.
The president of the ACCI, Mr Tony Ejinkeonye, said that the award was in recognition of the company’s sustained contribution to the growth of the economy.
The regional director, North Central, Dangote Cement Plc, Dolapo Alli; Abuja representative of the Dangote Group, Hashem Ahmed; manager, Dangote Cement Plc, Mustafa Yelwa, and media relations specialist, Jibrin Abubakar, received the award on behalf of the company.
Speaking, Ahmed expressed appreciation for the award and said that it would further spur the group to sustain its support for not only the country’s economy but Africa as a whole. He said that already thousands of jobs were being created on the continent.
Speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the award, Alli, on his part, said that Dangote Cement has production and operations in some African countries. According to him, in Nigeria the cement company has three cement plants with a combined installed capacity of 29.25 million metric tonnes (MT) per annum.
“The Obajana Cement Plant in Kogi State is the largest cement plant in the world with a current capacity of 13.25 million MT, the Ibese Cement Plant in Ogun State has a combined installed capacity of 12 million MT while the Gboko plant has installed capacity of 4 million MT,” he said.
