TO decongest hospitals in Kano city, the state government has established zonal general hospitals across the three senatorial zones.
The Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Health, Isma’ila Garba Gwammaja, said government hospitals became congested because of the little amount charged for medical services.
“You know we have 44 local councils in the state, and patients were used to rushing to the city hospitals for medical attention. That is why government decided to come up with zonal hospitals across the three senatorial zones,” he said.
The zonal hospitals are located at Gwarzo, Rano, Dambatta, Gaya and Wudil local councils.
According to Gwammaja, over N100 million was spent to purchase hospital equipment for the zonal hospitals, adding that, “Most of those coming to city hospitals from other local councils come on referral cases.”
The government also provided 88 tricycle ambulances to assist people at remote places get the health centres.
