Amy Revell, 17, from Stirling, developed the lump - 'like a purple ball' - under her tongue.
To her horror, it birst a few days later, filling her mouth with blood.
'I had to keep running to the toilet to spit blood and was struggling to breathe - I was really scared,' she said.
When the bleeding failed to stop, she rushed to the A&E department at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
She needed hospital treatment after the incident - but still wants her lip pierced.
