The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammed Bello, has said his administration will empower rural women in the territory so that they become self-reliant.
Speaking at the celebration of the Women’s Day in Gwagwalada on Tuesday, the minister, represented by Hajiya Amina Abubakar, said the FCT administration will liaise with the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) to ensure that women acquired skills in order for them to be self-sufficient.
He observed that every woman could improve in whatever business she was doing, adding that some women who were into small scale businesses had been able to sponsor their children to school.
“It is obvious that women are the backbone of the society so they are the focus of this administration. The FCT administration will ensure that our women are empowered so that they can become self-reliant to cater for their families,” he said.
Wife of the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Giri, noted that the celebration of the Women’s Day was a good step in the right direction since women actively participate in politics.
“We know that if we don’t work hard for good people to be elected, there won’t be any development in our various communities,” she also said.
City News reports that the wife of the council chairman, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Giri, at the occasion presented an award to the Amira of the Quismu Da’awah of the council, Halima Sa’eed, for her support for women and orphans in the area.
