With fabulous feathers and dramatic, sculptural shapes, the Duchess of Cambridge's hat collection has long been a thing of beauty. 

Yet when she stepped out at Westminster Abbey this week in a grey hat by milliner John Boyd (top left), many questioned whether the dark, heavy-brimmed number flattered the 34-year-old royal.

Indeed, several of Kate's choices have attracted attention for all the wrong reasons.
