Nigeria: Agency to train 3,000 teachers in Katsina State


A total of 3,000 primary school teachers in Katsina State will be trained under the Global Partnership in Education (GPE) project.
The Project Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Lawal, disclosed this during the inauguration of the project’s technical committee on Friday in Katsina.

The coordinator said that GPE provides educational support in five states which include Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa and Sokoto.
She said that the aim of the project was to provide the girl-child access to basic education, particularly for out of school children.
According to her, funds would be given to female pupils who were enrolled into primary schools to motivate others.
The coordinator said that the project would be implemented in 18 local government areas of the state.
Lawal said that learning materials would also be provided to the selected schools for the project.
The coordinator said that female teachers without teaching qualifications would be given scholarship to Colleges of Education to acquire NCE.
She said that the project would liaise with the State Basic Education Board and other stakeholders to realise its objectives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project would run for an initial period of four years.
