Enugu Rangers have increased their points tally to 17 from 9 games after they came from behind to beat regional rivals, Enyimba FC, 2-1 in the Oriental Derby at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.
The result keeps the Flying Antelopes top in the NPFL standings as they continue their good start to the season.
It was Enyimba that scored first in Sunday’s derby clash through Joe Osadiaye who curled the ball into the net from close to 20 yards in the 14th minute
Rangers however got back into the game in the 21st minute through Godwin Aguda who rifled in the equalizer after a brilliant work by Bobby Clement down the left.
The Flying Antelopes were in front in the 31st minute. This time, it was Chisom Egbuchulam who hit the roof of the net after another brilliant assist by Bobby Clement.
There were no goals through the second half but the hosts ended the game with 10-men after Clement was red-carded for retaliation late in the game.
In other centres, Kano Pillars showed their superiority over FC Ifeanyi Ubah; beating the big spenders 2-0.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars finally recorded their first win of the season as they beat Shooting Stars 2-1 in what some dub the South-West best.
El-kanemi Warriors recorded the biggest win of the weekend as they thrashed Nasarawa United 3-0.
Heartland on their part beat Giwa FC 2-0 while the solitary strike from Chisom Chikatara gave Abia Warriors a lone goal win over Niger Tornadoes.
In Jos, newly promoted MFM FC continued their fine display recording a 1-1 draw away to Plateau United.
The only away win for the weekend happened in Lagos where the woes of Ikorodu United was compounded as they lost 2-3 to visiting Rivers United.
In all, Match Day 9 provided 21 goals (2.1 goals per game), 6 home wins, 3 draws and 1 win on the road.
